Immersion wear is a new category by SHAPES IN THE SAND, designed to be worn from studio to sand and into the ocean. Made in Australia from organic cotton and creora® regen, each piece combines the comfort of natural fibres with the versatility to move.

We chose organic cotton to offer a softer, more breathable alternative to conventional synthetic activewear. It feels natural against the skin, moves comfortably with the body and supports versatility from the studio to the sand.

No. Each piece is fully lined in organic cotton for comfort, coverage and support, so they’re designed to be worn without underwear just like our traditional swimwear.

Immersion wear is crafted primarily from organic cotton. To provide the stretch and shape retention needed for comfort and movement, the fabric also contains 7% creora® regen, the world's first 100% recycled spandex made from reclaimed waste.

This small percentage of recycled stretch fibre allows the garments to move with your body while maintaining a predominantly natural fibre composition.

Organic cotton behaves differently from synthetic fabrics. It remains comfortable in the water and is designed to hold its shape without sagging. As natural fibres absorb more moisture, Immersion wear takes a little longer to dry than traditional synthetic Lycra.

This is something we experienced throughout our wear testing and is simply part of the unique nature of the fabric.

No. During our wear testing, we found the fabric remained comfortable for ocean dips and everyday movement.

Because it is made from organic cotton, drying time will generally be longer than synthetic lycra. Like any fabric drying will vary depending on temperature, humidity and airflow.

Absolutely! Some synthetic textiles may contain chemical residues or finishes that can migrate into sweat, particularly during close skin contact. While research specific to sauna use is still limited, many people prefer natural fibres in high heat for their breathability, absorbency and more natural feel against the skin.

Our garments are printed using a water free printing process that produces beautifully saturated colours. Following the care instructions will help preserve the vibrancy of your garment over time.

Immersion wear is not designed for chlorinated pools, as chlorine can damage the natural fibres and reduce the life of the garment.
